Summer Camp Teacher

Maplewood Outside School, an independent Forest School located in South Mountain Reservation, has a part-time summer camp teaching position stating in June, 2024.

The Position

This opening is for a part-time Teacher/s who will work closely with the Director to assist with weekly camps. Our camps will be outside in all weather. Our explorers are grouped by age 3-5, and 5-9. The teacher will help oversee and maintain the student’s daily functions.

Hours

8:45 am to 1:00 pm, Monday - Thursday

or

8:45 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Thursday

Experience and Skills

It’d be ideal if candidates are familiar with Forest School pedagogy and embrace the school’s focus: providing children, age two through nine-years-old, the opportunity to be outdoors to develop a love, respect, and appreciation for nature.

A successful Teacher candidate at Maplewood Outside School will:

• Always be on time. Punctuality is extremely important for a successful program.

• Have a love and interest in nature

• Be prepared to enjoy being outside no matter the weather

• Have at least 1 years of experience working with children

• Have strong interpersonal skills

Ideal Qualifications

• BS in education

• Have previous experience working in a school setting

Our explorers will take to the forests of South Mountain Reservation for adventure, to play and observe nature in all its glory. We will follow our curiosity, listen to our imagination, and have FUN! The possibilities are endless! Nature offers infinite opportunities for discovery - digging for earthworms, building magical forts, reading under the magnificent canopy of trees, and making new friends. Come join us this summer! We meet in all weather; rain, sun, snow, and cold.
