Christy Zolty — Director, Pre-School Teacher
Coming off the back of helping Brooklyn Nature Days grow into one of the most successful Forest Schools in the country, Christy Zolty started Maplewood Outside School after she and her family relocated to the SOMA area. At Brooklyn Nature Days, Christy was a head teacher, leading an average class size of 16 students with 3 assistant teachers, and worked closely with the founder to help improve and grow the program.
Christy has a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Hunter College, and has been certified by Cedarsong Nature School, based outside Seatle, WA. Christy has taught and learned from some of the best schools throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan, including The Blue School, Community Roots Charter School, The Co-Op School, and Maple Street School.
Kathryn Habecker — Pre-School Assistant Teacher
Kathryn has a broad background in teaching and working with children. From running dance classes for 3-7 year-olds, to tutoring students in French and reading and writing skills, to helping teach English to refugees in Chicago.
Kathryn has a B.A. in International Studies, a B.A. French Language & Literature, and is in the process of getting a M.A. in Public Administration and a M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations.
Alicia Rose Tait Hedgecoth — After School Teacher
Alicia has worked with children both in the classroom and in the great outdoors of NYC metro area for the past ten years. Five years ago, Alicia founded and ran the very popular after school outdoor program in Brooklyn, Naturally Curious Nature Walks. After she and her husband decided to make the move to Maplewood, she's teamed up with Maplewood Outside School to bring her amazing skills and program to the SOMA community.
